So, this past weekend, I competed in the Las Vegas Classic. Las Vegas is about 6-7 hours away, and a show I competed at last year.
I was determined to do better this year than I did last year. I competed in the masters division of Men’s Physique. Masters means that it is for the ‘old guys’, 35 and up.
Unfortunately this show doesn’t tell you what you placed, or post pictures for online of the results. Anyway, I trained this year with Derek Charlebois. One of the true good guys in the bodybuilding community. Derek preaches balance in both diet, and bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is but a small piece of ones’ life and it shouldn’t take it over. Anyhow, I’ve trained with Derek before and I really appreciate his approach, and the knowledge he has.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the classes that are in the Men’s Physique division, there is no weight class. It is also untested (they don’t test for performance/physique enhancing drugs). So, in my class I was right next to somebody that had 25 lbs more muscle than I do, and a couple people down from him was somebody with 55lbs more muscle than me! Crazy.
In 2012 I was the 16th person called out I believe. In 2013 I was the 11th called out. (It is believed that they typically call people out in the order that they are going to place (or thereabouts). That’s not a first place for sure, not even top 5 (there were 24 in my class), but it is an improvement over last year, and I think the pictures below speak to that.
Anyway, the show was great, and I am beginning my prep again for next year’s show. I’m considering competing in the bodybuilding, lightweight division just to mix things up a bit.
Here’s my picture. Let me know what you think! I think I progressed pretty good! Weight is the same in both pictures (151lbs-153lbs).
