German Chocolate Cake at 3 in the morning. Who doesn’t love it right? Ice cream, other munchies just before bedtime, so good huh? I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that if you are trying to lose fat and get in better shape, that late night snacking can severely hinder your gains. Let’s look at some ways that you can overcome late night snacking.
I know this is easier said than done. But being 100% committed is what it takes. When you have that craving and are tempted to eat you need to remember why you committed to changing your life. Remember how bad you will feel if you give in. To be successful you have to look at the big picture and realize that a couple minutes of satisfaction are not worth the regret and potential negative effects it will have on your body transformation.
Replace the Activities
Do you find that your unhealthy snacking often happens at times when you have some extra free time? Who doesn’t love a bowl of ice cream and their favorite show? Replace activities that cause you to have the propensity to eat stupid, needless calories. If you can’t give up those activities with something better, than you will have to keep your mind occupied so that you don’t snack just because.
Replace the Food
Duh, so easy huh? Do you have ice cream in the freezer? Pringles in the pantry? Whatever your crutch is, get rid of it. Sometimes cravings can be overwhelming powerful. But if you don’t have the food in the house, the chances of you snacking on something are much, much lower. Usually a craving will go away within a few minutes, especially if you don’t think about it. One of my favorite alternatives is frozen grapes. I love frozen grapes! Oranges, bananas, craisins. Cucumber and ranch. Get a good, healthy snack. Sometimes you just feel like you need something in your mouth. Give fruit and vegetables a try. If you need something sweet, go for sugar free jello, or perhaps diet soda.
Cravings are inevitably going to happen when you cut your calories and cut out some of your favorite foods. A combination of will power, staying active, and healthy alternatives are what is going to help you reach your goals. Keep a picture in mind of where you want to be. Remember what is truly important.
